(Anderson, S.C. - May 29, 2020) – In recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, the AnMed Cancer Center is reminding cancer fighters and survivors to save the date for a celebration on September 20, conditions permitting due to COVID-19. Details will be announced closer to the date.
Many people's lives have been touched by cancer. Nearly 17 million people in the United States and more than 32 million worldwide have or have had cancer. On Sunday, June 7, 2020, these cancer fighters and survivors will be acknowledged as part of the 33rd annual National Cancer Survivors Day.
AnMed's observance is held in September to better accommodate people's summer schedules. "We acknowledge this special day in June and encourage everyone to take this time to reflect on all that has been accomplished in our fight against cancer," said Samantha Carter, Assistant Vice President, and Oncology Services. “As we continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19, we are hoping to have our celebration in September again as long as it is safe to do so.”
Fighters and survivors are considered as anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis. The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation is encouraging everyone - cancer survivors, fighters, caregivers, care professionals, family members, and friends - to join the celebration.
