AnMed Piedmont is under construction to bring life-saving emergency services and more to an area in northeastern Anderson County that’s among the fastest-growing communities in Upstate South Carolina.
Where about 30 miles and a speed-limit drive of about 40 minutes have crossed an area without emergency health care south of Easley in the Powdersville, Pelzer and Williamston areas, the new Piedmont location of AnMed will meet increased demand for care and the needs of a growing population thanks to an investment of more than $50 million.
The campus is being built at the corner of South Carolina Highway 86 and Old Williamston Road, just off of Interstate 85 at Exit 35.
AnMed Piedmont’s freestanding emergency department will open for service at 7 a.m. on May 12 to provide 24-hour emergency care. It’s the first wing to open on the campus that encompasses about 55,000 square feet of space for patient care.
Emergency services, primary care, specialty care, physician offices, physical therapy, and laboratory and imaging services that include X-ray, CT and ultrasound will all soon be provided there, at 2110 Highway 86 in Piedmont.
Medical office space at AnMed Piedmont is on schedule to open in June.
Piedmont SC: From Mill Town Roots to Modern Growth
A look at the history of Piedmont SC and what’s next for the community and its surrounding area in the Upstate. From mill village roots to the new AnMed health care campus near opening, this video shares local insight on how the area is changing and what it means for residents on both sides of the Saluda River.
Substations to provide local bases of operations for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS are on schedule to open in July.
“This facility will make South Carolina better,” said AnMed CEO William Kenley. “It will plant emergency care right in the heart of the I-85 corridor. It will bring other needed services much closer to people’s homes. It will make it so much easier for so many to be healthier. Better starts here.”
“Every second matters when it comes to emergency care,” said AnMed Chief Nursing Officer Shaunda Trotter. “The sooner that expert care and intervention can be provided to a person in need, the more likely that person is to recover and heal, the more likely that person is to overcome, survive and thrive.
“We are thrilled that a new, state-of-the-art emergency department is a major component of AnMed Piedmont – because we know that this facility and our team will save lives. It will protect and help heal thousands of local families and businesses.”
“This new facility is coming to the right place at exactly the right time,” said Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns. “We have seen tremendous population growth in recent time in Powdersville and northeastern Anderson County, and I have no doubt that AnMed Piedmont is going to save lives. Plus, the availability of AnMed primary care, physical therapy and laboratory services within a short drive will be welcomed by the many thousands of residents in the community.”
More than 50 high-paying jobs are projected to be created by the facility when AnMed Piedmont opens.
“As a native son of Piedmont, I am so excited to see AnMed come to northern Anderson County,” said Anderson County Council member Jimmy Davis. “We are experiencing explosive growth here, and we could not ask for a better partner to further the growth of health, safety and welfare of our community.”
