(Central, S.C. – August 20, 2025) –AnMed Central / Clemson is under construction to bring life-saving emergency services to a robust new health care campus near the intersection of U.S. Highway 123 and 18 Mile Road.
It will provide the only emergency department in Clemson or Central and operate around the clock with critical care available 24 hours a day year-round at 1490 18 Mile Road, Central, SC, 29630.
The investment of $105 million will provide a wide array of services that improve safety, wellbeing and quality of life.
Primary care and specialty physician offices, physical therapy, and laboratory and imaging services that include X-ray, CT and ultrasound will join the freestanding emergency department at AnMed Central / Clemson.
Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony August 19.
“The growth of Central, Clemson, Clemson University and the surrounding area brings a need for more access to exceptional medical care and services, and we’re called to serve our community,” said AnMed CEO William Kenley. “This expansion of our independent, not-for-profit health care system represents unwavering commitment to that service. It’s going to provide exceptional care the community needs and deserves in a state-of-the-art environment and reduce need to travel to Anderson, Greenville, Easley or Seneca.
“It’s an investment in the health and wellbeing of every person we serve, and I’m tremendously excited about it.”
The campus will cover about 150,000 square feet of space for patient care, including shelled space for expansions to seamlessly accommodate the needs of the growing local population.
Prior to its opening, the nearest emergency department requires a drive of about 20 minutes without traffic.
“Every second matters when it comes to emergency care,” said AnMed Chief Nursing Officer Shaunda Trotter. “The sooner that expert care and intervention can be provided to a person in need, the more likely that person is to recover and heal, the more likely that person is to overcome, survive and thrive. Having the emergency department at AnMed Central / Clemson is going to make residents, families, businesses and visitors throughout the area safer. It’s going to save lives.”
Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
At least 50 high-paying jobs will be created at the campus by AnMed upon its opening, with additional jobs to be created as services expand.
The AnMed Clemson campus located at 885 Tiger Boulevard will continue its service even after the opening of AnMed Central / Clemson. Family medicine and pediatrics practices are among providers who’ll be accessible at both locations.
AnMed Central / Clemson construction comes on the heels of the celebrated founding of AnMed Piedmont, the health care campus and freestanding emergency department opened this year off Interstate 85 Exit 35.
“This is a momentous investment in our community – its health, wellbeing and future – and it’s heartening to know how it will touch lives having seen what’s happening over at AnMed Piedmont,” said Clemson Mayor Robert Halfacre. “It’s not just advanced medical technology, services and convenience but the care of compassionate people that makes such a special difference for a community. To be here today knowing what’s soon to come, it’s simply thrilling.”

“Today is more than a groundbreaking — it’s a promise to our community,” said Central Mayor Andrew Beckner. “For families here in Central and the surrounding area, this new facility means peace of mind. It means that in moments of crisis, help will be close at hand. It means jobs for our neighbors and a stronger, healthier future for our community. We are grateful for AnMed’s vision and investment, and we look forward to the lives that will be touched, healed and saved right here at home.”
