Substations to provide local bases of operations for the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and EMS are being included in the AnMed Piedmont health care campus that's opening soon off Interstate 85 at Exit 35.
The facilities will cover nearly 3,000 square feet and support emergency response and public safety throughout the growing area.
The entire campus encompasses about 55,000 square feet of space for patient care. Emergency services, primary care, specialty care, physician offices, physical therapy, and laboratory and imaging services that include X-ray, CT and ultrasound will be provided.
The $50 million campus at the corner of state Highway 86 and Old Williamston Road - at 2110 Highway 86 in Piedmont - was made possible by the independent, not-for-profit health system's investment as well as local, state and federal support.
AnMed's Piedmont emergency department is slated to open May 12, while other facilities open about a month later.
The EMS and Sheriff's Office substations are expected to open by July after earning unanimous approval from Anderson County Council in February.
"These substations are a major step forward in strengthening public safety in northeastern Anderson County," said Michael Haje, AnMed's vice president of ambulatory operations. "If you, your family or your business are anywhere from Powdersville to Pelzer, from Easley to Williamston, AnMed Piedmont is going to make a great place to live and work even better, and we're thrilled that it's going to be further enhanced by these substations. They'll ensure faster response times and increase access."
Bunk rooms, offices, a garage and conference room are included in the substations to provide well-equipped space for the first-responders.
"We think this is just going to be a win-win for local residents," said Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns. "It's really just continuing our relationship between Anderson County government and AnMed. It serves our citizens better, provides better law enforcement protection, better health care, better emergency medical services. That's the goal by County Council."
Haje said the entire campus reflects AnMed's commitment to providing resources and infrastructure to support a healthier, more secure community.
