Frequently Asked Questions (Updated: Fri, Aug 7, 3:00 p.m.)

Patient Care and Safety

Is it safe to receive care at AnMed?

Established downtime procedures and clinical judgment are enabling providers to continue providing care safely at AnMed locations. Doctors have access to medical records and the ability to prescribe medications and procedural treatments as needed, though on a temporarily limited basis. Protecting patients and providing safe care remain their highest priorities. In some cases, they may reschedule appointments or order transfers, diversions and new processes.

I have surgery or a procedure scheduled this week. Is it still happening?

We understand this uncertainty is stressful. Because some of our systems remain unavailable, we may not be able to access schedules or proactively contact every affected patient as quickly as we would like.

At this time, we cannot confirm the status of individual appointments or procedures unless patients have been contacted directly. We will communicate updates as soon as more information becomes available and will reach patients directly whenever possible.

Should I still come to the hospital if I go into labor?

Yes, you should safely go to AnMed Labor and Delivery at AnMed Medical Center if you’re going into labor. Our teams have established downtime procedures to continue providing care safely at open locations, with temporarily limited access to some systems and services.

Should I go to the Emergency Department if I have an emergency?

In the event of a medical emergency, call 911. The Emergency Department at AnMed is caring for emergency patients.

Appointments and Provider Communication

How do I contact my doctor to ask medical questions?

If you have a question for your doctor’s office, you may call 864-824-3850 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Physician offices are open for scheduled appointments. At this time, it’s helpful if you bring all your medications in their original containers to your scheduled appointments. Please understand that some services are temporarily impacted. We understand how frustrating this is. We are working to restore operations as safely and quickly as possible and will share updates through official AnMed communication channels.

How do I reschedule a missed appointment from Monday?

Scheduled appointments are being kept at open locations, unless team members contact patients directly. Patients are not required to confirm scheduled appointments at this time. Patients may call 864-824-3850 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with questions about scheduling and appointments, prescription refill requests and non-urgent medical concerns. We are answering all questions as best we can as quickly as possible. We are currently temporarily unable to confirm or reschedule upcoming appointments by phone or MyChart.

Do I still have access to MyChart? Can I use it to confirm an appointment or message my provider?

Progress is being made on providing a temporary system for patients to view their MyChart records, but our cybersecurity incident has temporarily impacted quick, convenient access to MyChart for our patients. More information will be shared as updates are available. Patients are not required to confirm scheduled appointments at this time.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring all medications in their original containers to your scheduled appointments. We appreciate understanding and patience as the health and safety of our patients guides every decision amid response to our cybersecurity incident. We are committed to answering questions as quickly and fully as possible, but our phone and internet systems are temporarily disabled, and access to some systems and services is limited.

Will I be charged for a missed appointment due to the cybersecurity disruption?

No, AnMed will not bill patients for missed appointments due to our cybersecurity incident. We understand this incident is frustrating, and we regret the impact on our patients.

Am I required to confirm my scheduled appointment?

Patients are not required to confirm scheduled appointments at this time. Scheduled appointments are being kept at open locations, unless team members contact patients directly. Patients may call 864-824-3850 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with questions about scheduling and appointments, prescription refill requests and non-urgent medical concerns. We are currently temporarily unable to confirm or reschedule upcoming appointments by phone or MyChart.

Someone called me about my care from a phone number I don't recognize. How do I know it is a legitimate representative of AnMed?

In an effort to communicate with patients and ensure continuity of care, AnMed has acquired temporary cell phones from a number of sources, including community partners from outside of the Upstate area. As a result, you may receive a call about your care from an unfamiliar phone number, which, in some cases, may have an 843 or other area code. Although we are not aware of any attempts by unauthorized persons to impersonate AnMed staff, we encourage you to use caution. AnMed representatives will never ask you for your payment information or social security number over the phone. However, you may be asked to provide your date of birth in order to confirm we provide accurate information.

Prescriptions, Tests and Medical Records

How do I request a prescription refill?

If you have a prescription refill request, you may call the following number between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday:

How do I get my test results?

How do I request a copy of my medical records?

Access to certain systems and services is temporarily affected by the cybersecurity incident. We understand this may be frustrating, and we regret the impact on our patients. Our teams are working to restore full, secure access as quickly and safely as possible. As soon as additional information about medical records requests is available, we will share it through our regular updates.

Cybersecurity Incident Information

Has my personal information been compromised?

We understand this is an important concern.

I heard that the attacker is targeting patients. Is that true?

Patients should continue to use caution with electronic communications and rely on AnMed’s official updates for the most current information.

I’m getting appointment reminders from AnMed. Is it safe to click them?

Some patients may continue to receive appointment reminders generated outside of our internal systems. Patients are not required to confirm appointments at this time. If you have a scheduled appointment, you should keep it unless you’ve been contacted directly by AnMed.
