Anmed Health Cannon

About

AnMed Cannon is a 55-bed rural community hospital with several medical practices in Pickens, South Carolina. We’re part of the AnMed health system, which cares for people in Upstate South Carolina and Northeast Georgia.

Our vision is to remain a community-directed, nonprofit health care provider focused on high-quality, compassionate care.

We strive for excellence, so our hospital and medical practices choose to participate in the accreditation process through DNV Healthcare. We’re licensed by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

    Our History

AnMed Cannon is the result of a country doctor’s dream to bring medical care to the people of Pickens County. Beginning as a three-room clinic, the former Cannon Memorial is now a modern, high-tech facility.

Dr. E. Gaine Cannon founded the first Cannon Hospital located on Pendleton Street and named it as a memorial to his father, Dr. James Cannon. In 1949, the hospital grew to an 88-bed facility and was sold to community leaders who formed a nonprofit organization.

In 1982, a new hospital was built at its current location on WG Acker Drive, and because of the growth of the community, the Outpatient Services building was added in 1991.

In 2009, Cannon Memorial Hospital signed a partnership agreement with AnMed Health in Anderson to create a new health care network. In 2014, another agreement further integrated Cannon with AnMed. Leaders in nursing, business services, human resources and other areas aligned the two organizations’ standards of care and business practices. This partnership ensures local access to care and offers an avenue to specialty care and other resources available through AnMed.
