Pediatric Primary Care

AnMed pediatricians are your partner in caring for your child—from birth to young adulthood. They track your child’s health and development, and serve as your child’s primary care provider. Our pediatricians also partner with pediatric specialists, if necessary.

Why Does My Child Need a Pediatrician?

Like most primary care doctors, pediatricians diagnose and treat diseases and provide preventive care. But unlike other primary care doctors, pediatricians are specially trained to care for children. In choosing a pediatrician, you know an expert in children's health is treating your little one. 

Well Child Visits

Bring your child to your pediatrician regularly for well exams. At each visit, we can provide timely advice to help your child succeed and discuss your goals for being a successful parent or caregiver. Depending on your child’s age, a well visit may include: 

  • Age-appropriate lab tests
  • An intake of your family’s medical history
  • Assessments of school and behavioral issues 
  • Developmental screenings for infants to toddlers
  • Discussions about sleep routines, nutrition and more
  • Immunizations (vaccines) following American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations
  • Physical exam
  • Vision and hearing screenings

Routine Well Child Visit Schedule

We know the list below sounds like a lot of visits to remember, but don’t worry. After every appointment, we’ll schedule your next one to keep your child on track. 

  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 2 years 
  • 30 months 

After your child turns 3, we’ll schedule visits annually.

Sports & Camp Physicals

If your child had a well visit within the past 12 months, we can complete any camp or sports form needed for participation. If not, you’ll need to make an appointment for a well child visit. Please tell us when calling that the visit is for the completion of a participation form. We’ll send you the forms to complete before your appointment.

Same-Day Sick Care

Whenever possible, we’ll make a same-day appointment to see your child who recently developed an illness or injury, such as:

  • Cough
  • Cuts
  • Fever
  • Flu
  • Infections
  • Sore throat
  • Sprains
     

Phone Nurse Services

Need advice or want to know whether you should take your child to a doctor? Call your pediatrician’s office and ask to talk to one of our friendly nurses.

After-Hours Pediatric Care

If you call after your pediatrician’s office is closed, a nurse will help you determine the best care option for your child. AnMed Kids’ Care is the only after-hours walk-in facility of its kind in Anderson County, and it’s open evenings and weekends. Medical records from your visit will stay in the AnMed system, so your pediatrician has easy access to them. 

Hospital Care

Our physicians visit all well newborns at AnMed Women’s and Children’s Hospital. If your child is admitted to the hospital, rest assured knowing our inpatient pediatricians offer 24/7 hospital coverage.

Prenatal Consultations

When you’re expecting your first baby, call one of our pediatric practices to schedule a free appointment to meet a pediatrician. We recommend scheduling this visit during your second trimester.

Continuous Health Care Management

If your child has a chronic health condition, we’ll help manage it so they can enjoy better quality of life. We know just the right specialists to refer your family to, when needed, which means you’ll have a full team of caring experts in your family’s corner.
