About Me

Dr. William S. Buice is a board‑certified general surgeon with advanced training in breast surgery at AnMed Piedmont Surgical - Anderson. He provides evaluation and surgical care for a wide range of conditions, with a special focus on the surgical treatment of cancer, particularly breast cancer. He works closely with patients facing a new diagnosis, offering guidance, clarity and steady support throughout treatment.

Dr. Buice was drawn to medicine after shadowing his uncle, a surgeon, while in high school. Seeing the passion his uncle had for caring for patients and solving complex problems left a lasting impression and helped shape his decision to pursue a surgical career. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed both his internship and residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.

Breast cancer surgery is especially meaningful to Dr. Buice because of the strong relationships formed with patients during a challenging time. He understands that a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, and he takes time to educate patients about their options while listening carefully to their goals and concerns. Because breast cancer care is highly personal, he believes each treatment plan should reflect the individual, not a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. Many breast cancers are highly treatable, and he finds it rewarding to help guide patients from diagnosis through recovery.

Dr. Buice has been actively involved with the AnMed Cancer Center for more than 20 years, serving as medical director and in other leadership roles, including breast cancer program leader. His long‑standing commitment to cancer care has allowed him to help improve services and support for patients across the community.

Outside of work, Dr. Buice enjoys spending time outdoors hiking with his dog and working in his garden, even if the weeds and deer seem to benefit the most. He and his wife enjoy time at home with their children and grandchildren. A lifelong member of the Anderson community, he was born at Anderson Memorial Hospital and values caring for patients close to home. He also enjoys reading, especially audiobooks, classic literature and stories of adventure, and he fondly recalls past years spent ocean sailing.
