What to Expect

You’ll lie on your back in your doctor's office as a doctor uses a fine needle to inject a salt solution into your spider veins slowly. You might feel a little stinging or cramping at first, but the sensation will fade. After withdrawing the needle, your doctor will put a bandage over the area.

After Sclerotherapy

You can go home right after your appointment. To get the best results:

  • Walk around as soon as possible to keep blood flowing in your legs
  • Shield your skin from the sun for at least two weeks 
  • Wear compression stockings or bandages over the treatment area for as long as your doctor recommends

You might notice some bruising, redness, or dark spots after treatment, but these should go away with time. Call your doctor if you have any questions about your recovery.
