Dr. John Muhonen II is a board-certified general and vascular surgeon specializing in comprehensive vascular care. His expertise includes thoracic outlet syndrome, aortic aneurysms and dissections, and lower extremity revascularization. He is dedicated to staying at the forefront of vascular surgery, ensuring patients receive the most advanced and effective treatments available.

Personal Background
A San Diego native, Dr. Muhonen began his career by enlisting in the U.S. Army as a medic. During his service, he discovered his passion for medicine and a deep commitment to helping others. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University while serving in the Army Reserve and ROTC on a full scholarship. After graduation, he completed Airborne School, Army officer training, and helicopter flight training, graduating with honors as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot. He later served in combat operations in Iraq, an experience that shaped his strong values and dedication to excellence.
Dr. Muhonen also pursued advanced aviation training, becoming an instructor pilot in helicopters and a commercial pilot in airplanes. Outside of his medical career, he enjoys raising his two young sons, instilling in them his commitment to service and integrity. An avid outdoorsman, he spends his free time long-distance running in Anderson, training at the gym, and exploring the outdoors through multi-day hikes, whitewater rafting, and travel.
